In West Virginia, there are two bills in progress.

• HB 5159/SB 559: this bill removes the work permit system for 14-15 year-olds and all of the protections the system provides, and replaces it with far less stringent age certificates 

• HB 5162: this bill creates a new 'Youth Apprenticeship Program' which bypasses the requirement to meet US Department of Labor standards, and which removes anyone on the program from hazardous work protections.
